Attention, SOJC journalism students! Now you can earn a master’s degree within a year of completing your bachelor’s degree in journalism at the SOJC! With our one-year accelerated Multimedia Journalism Master’s program based at SOJC Portland, you’ll learn all the storytelling and technical skills you need to stand out in the field, from immersive media and virtual reality to podcasting, explanatory storytelling, drone journalism, and 360 video.

We’re excited to offer classes at UO’s new Northeast Portland campus starting in fall 2024. But you can choose the course modalities that work best for you, whether that’s hybrid classes or night and weekend courses in person. Students often complete our 48-credit program in 15 months, but you can negotiate a pace that works for you.
SOJC Portland’s new campus in Northeast Portland features an updated library, classrooms, meeting spaces, and production spaces, and it’s home to the Oregon Reality immersive experience lab. Our students have access to state-of-the-art production equipment, including Canon cinema cameras, gimbals, drones, and audio and lighting gear.

This program is eligible for federal financial aid and the G.I. Bill. Check with your employer to see if they have a tuition-matching or reimbursement program.
Cost of attendance is the estimated cost to attend the UO for the academic year. The Office of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships provides estimates for cost of attendance information that goes beyond tuition and fees, and includes: living expenses (housing and food), books/supplies/equipment, transportation, and miscellaneous personal expenses.

Ifanyi Bell
Adjunct Instructor
Emmy-nominated storyteller Ifanyi Bell teaches master’s students how to make short documentaries in J-656 Producing the Story. Before launching Brushfire Creative Partners, a socially sustainable marketing agency, Bell produced stories for multiple PBS and NPR stations. In 2017, he became the executive producer at Open Signal, a content studio and social impact incubator sharing stories of social and cultural relevance. He also recently started Labs Media, an event and gathering space for creatives.
