Two UO School of Journalism and Communication students have won scholarships from The LAGRANT Foundation. The organization awarded a total of $150,000 in scholarships to 50 students from ethnic minorities across the nation for the 2017-18 school year.

SOJC students Amanda Lam, who is pursuing a B.A. in public relations, and Ashley Cordes, who is in the Media Studies Master’s program, were among the winners of this prestigious scholarship.

Recipients must attend a four-year accredited institution in the U.S. and major in the fields of advertising, marketing or public relations. Thirty undergraduate students each received a scholarship of $2,500, and 20 graduate students each received a scholarship of $3,750.

In addition to their scholarships, Lam and Cordes will travel to Detroit, where they will participate in career-building activities and development workshops and network with industry professionals. They will also receive support from The LAGRANT Foundation as they move forward with their careers.

Since its inception in 1998, The LAGRANT Foundation has provided nearly $2 million in scholarships to African American/Black, Alaska Native/Native American, Asian American/Pacific Islander and Hispanic/Latino undergraduate and graduate students.
