When walking through Allen Hall in the UO School of Journalism and Communication (SOJC), it doesn’t take long to realize that the building is never empty. Students, faculty and staff are always in the halls, in the offices, in the classrooms. They’re discussing projects, working at tables and walking to and from class.

With over 2,000 students and more than 100 staff and faculty filtering through the halls, the place is filled to the brim with opportunities for connection, collaboration, mentorship and networking.

One Cool Story: Tales from the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism and Communication,” a student-created podcast that launched in November, aims to share the special connections that make Allen Hall and the entire SOJC special. The inaugural season features four episodes of students interviewing peers, alumni, faculty and staff about college, their careers, our SOJC community and cool stories they want to share. Tune in to hear interviews with:

Whitney Phillips

Whitney Phillips, assistant Professor of Digital Platforms and Ethics, talks about her extensive research, why she loves teaching and her favorite travel stories.

Kayla Krueger

Kayla Krueger ’04 shares her experience as a DJ for campus radio station KWVA, the importance of having a creative outlet and her favorite concerts.

Sally Garner

Undergraduate Student Success Center Director Sally Garner breaks down her background as a UO transfer student, the changes and evolution of Allen Hall, her transition from student to staff advisor and her four-legged friends.

Andrew Theen

SOJC alum Andrew Theen ’06, OPB politics and government editor, shares his experience as a student and intern, his journey to an editing role and the most memorable news story of his career.
