About this site

Then & Now: 125 Years of Conflict and Culture at the U of O provides a view of the University of Oregon through its colorful and evolving culture and its response to conflict over the last 125 years.

Members of the class at work are (clockwise from left): Gordon Kelley, Zhiyong Zhou, Nicole Laskowski, David Weiss, Chris Ryan, David Weaver, Jenny Morrison, and Beata Mostafavi.

Featuring stories such as Go Ducks!, a northeasterner's discovery of hippies, anarchists, and football fans in Eugene, to a look at how the University's international students make sense of the September 11th tragedy, Then & Now reveals the University as an active participant in creating local culture and in helping the community understand conflict.

Then & Now is the creation of the Fall 2001 Cyberjournalism class. The site is the culmination of a quarter spent studying journalism on the Web: critically examining issues in web publishing, such as writing, editing and design, and learning some of the techniques used in web publishing. Chris Sutton produced the site design.
