6. Function of signs as a social semiotic:
- ideational metafunction: to represent the world outside of the immediate sign system. (each sign system is a microcosmic picture of the world outside)
- the interpersonal metafunction: to project the relations between the producer of a sign and the receiver/reproducer. (rebellion can be expressed through consumer products)
- the textual metafunction: to form texts, complexes of signs which cohere both internally and within the context in and for which they were produced. (ad as a whole/ ad is not the news)
