Welcome to Survival Guide: The Advising Manual. Don’t let the title worry you: “Survival” is part of a helpful strategy to strengthen your education, not a struggle to evolve or perish. At the School of Journalism and Communication, we will do all we can to properly advise and guide you through your education at the University of Oregon.

You must fulfill a number of premajor requirements before you can apply to become a full major in the school. Which premajor requirements you do depend on when you declare "pre-journalism" as your major. A student admitted to the university as a declared pre-journalism major in Fall 2007 must meet the major requirements published in the 2007-2008 Catalog. An undeclared student who started at the university in Fall 2007 but waited until Fall 2009 to apply for premajor status in journalism must meet the major requirements published in the 2009-2010 Catalog.
