Randy Shilts Scholarship


Established in 1993 by the late Randy M. Shilts '77. Shilts was a columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle and an acclaimed author. Shilts was distinguished in the area of AIDS reporting and was also a prize-winning author of two books: the New York Times bestseller Conduct Unbecoming: Gays and Lesbians in the Military and And the Band Played On; People, Politics and the AIDS Epicdemic, which was made into an Emmy Award-winning HBO movie. Shilts was awarded the UO Alumni Association's Distinguished Young Alumnus Award in 1993 and inducted into the School's Hall of Achievement in 1998.

Qualifications
Awarded to undergraduate students majoring in the news-editorial sequence of the School of Journalism and Communication.
