Established in 1979 in memory of Lucien P. Arant by the Estate of Mamie C. Arant. Lucien Arant was a longtime publisher of Oregon and Idaho newspapers and served as the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association president in 1952.

Qualifications
Awarded to students in the School of Journalism and Communicaition. 35-50 awards annually.
