Jarod Opperman

Photographer

As a journalism major, Jarod Opperman came to the University of Oregon to write. A brief stint on the high school paper had sparked the impulse to become a storyteller of sorts. However, an infatuation with his mom's old Olympus OM-1 ignited another flame. While toting the ol' film SLR around, he discovered the capabilities of storytelling in a visual sense. After freelancing for his entire sophomore year, Opperman finally became a staff photographer for the Oregon Daily Emerald in the summer of 2007. He has worked for numerous other publications, including the Tri-County News and KD magazine and has recently become the photo editor of the Oregon Daily Emerald. Opperman hopes his photos can provide people a window into lives and situations that they would otherwise never witness.
