Turnbull Center to host Election Coverage Panels, Climate Media Conference this fall
The Center will host “Covering the Coverage: A Report Card for Presidential Campaign Reporting” on Thursday, October 2 at 4:00 p.m., in conjunction with the week-long Grand Opening of the University of Oregon Portland. On Wednesday December 3, the center will host "Climate Change Science, Economics and Policy," a half-day seminar for journalists and editors, in conjunction with the Climate Leadership initiative.
These are only two of the events planned for this fall. Others include a National Press Club panel on election coverage on Tuesday, October 21 and
a "Think Tank" on the Greenwashing phenomenon, hosted by SOJC professors Kim Sheehan and Deborah Morrison, on Friday, October 17.
Also at the Turnbull Center, a new cohort of students in the school's professional master's in strategic communication will begin classes on Monday, October 29.
The Fall 2008 professional workshop in Portland, taught by Tom Bivins, the SOJC's John L. Hulteng Chair in Media Ethics, is called "The Ethics of Strategic Communication" and will explore some of the ethical issues most often encountered in public relations, advertising, and corporate communications.
"It's going to be a busy and exciting fall at the Turnbull Center," says Al Stavitsky, the Center's director. "We have some great public programs that really underscore our commitment to bringing the professional and academic communities together."
In addition to classes and events held on site, the Turnbull Center is collaborating with organizations in Portland on a number of events, including the Portland Arts and Lectures series and Wordstock festival of the book in conjunction with Literary Arts.
