Biography:

Background

Gleason has served as the dean of the School since 1997. He won the School of Journalism’s Marshall Award for Innovative Teaching in 1990. He has published two books and articles in law and history journals. He has professional experience as a photographer and reporter in the print media.


Research

The theory, history and practice of freedom of the press are the focal points of Gleason’s research interests. His current research includes a study of legislative reform of libel law in the late 19th century. Other interests of Gleason’s include journalism ethics, where he is concerned with issues such as digital manipulation of photographs.
