Biography:

Background
In 1999, Russial won the School of Journalism and Communication’s Marshall Award for Innovative Teaching, and he was named Outstanding Educator for 2003 by the Newspaper Division of AEJMC. Russial’s 17-year newspaper career includes 12 years at The Philidelphia Inquirer, where he was Sunday copy chief. Before that, he was a reporter, editor and computer systems manager at hte Bethlehem (Pa.) Globe Times. He is the author of Strategic Copy Editing, a textbook published in December 2003.


Research

Russial’s interests include exploring the impact of changing technology on news work, particularly editing, and on newspaper quality. His other interests are organizational change, new media and media criticism.
