Phil Bladine dies at 89
Philip Newell Bladine ’40, remembered as a “vibrant force” in McMinnville, Ore. where he lived and worked for more than 70 years, died Wednesday at the age of 89.
Bladine, who was named outstanding graduate of the School of Journalism in 1940, began working at what was then the McMinnville Telephone-Register while in high school, retiring as publisher of the McMinnville News-Register in 1991.
Bladine is survived by his wife, Margaret; a daughter, Pam, '66; and son Jeb Bladine '69, who succeeded his father as publisher and editor of the News-Register.
