SOJC welcomes new director of development
Sara Mason looks forward to connecting with SOJC alumni and friends
The SOJC is pleased to welcome Sara Mason (UO CAS ’94) who began as Director of Development on March 17. Mason fills the vacancy left by Tara McMahon, who left to become a UO regional director of development (Seattle).
In addition to two years as the Associate Development Director for Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences, Mason brings more than ten years experience in customer service, sales, and marketing to the SOJC.
Mason says she likes development because she values higher education and enjoys connecting alumni back to their experience as well as working with current students and faculty.
“I am thoroughly energized by meeting new people and hearing about their trajectory from UO to their current path,” she says. “It feels great to welcome alumni home and show how far we have come and share our hopes and goals for the future.”
She was attracted to the SOJC for “the variety of professional career directions that the SOJC alumni may pursue.”
“The school educates students in creativity, inspiration, research, logic, technical writing and more,” she says. “I look forward to connecting with this diverse group of professionals.”
Mason says her goals are to increase support for faculty, students, programs, and facilities of the SOJC; she is also “eager to see the Portland Turnbull Center become a regional center of collaboration for journalism and communication professionals.”
